The latest headliner from Jazz at Lincoln Center is the New England Conservatory, featuring vocalist Melanie Charles. The Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter, actress, and flutist of Haitian descent has a creative fluidity spanning jazz, soul and experimental music, as well as her Haitian roots. She's trained under jazz masters Reggie Workman, Bobby Sanabria, Junior Mance, Janet Lawson, Carla Cook, and Billy Harper. Backing her up is a quartet of students at the world-famous New England Conservatory; Gabriel Feldman on piano, Chris Mondak on bass, Mario Layne Fabrizio on drums and Shenzhen's Ye Huang on saxophone. Already experienced tour musicians, they'll be providing the musical accompaniment for what's bound to be a powerful evening of jazz, soul and more. They'll be performing daily shows from July 24-29. One of the most successful musicals of all time comes to China. This is an English-language production (with Chinese subs) of Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-running hit musical. Originally adapted from TS Eliot's whimsical poems about the personalities and sociology of cats, the performance features the classic songs “Memory” and “Magical Mr. Mistoffelees”. It's the story of the hidden society, rules and manners of felines, and it's won over fans across the globe. Jelical cats come out tonight! The Pearl’s Cabaret Soiree shows are back, bigger and better then ever before. First on the line-up is Cabaret Soiree: Fantasy. With a brand new host, Jeremy (The Penguin), the Pearl crew takes you on a journey through fantasies and dreams, exploring your fickle sensualities and desires. A little something for everyone, or, as they say, an exploration of the "Principles of Lust through our performers." Oh my. The premiere's on July 25, with regular shows until the end of August. A wintery spectacle in the heart of summer! Alice in Wonderland on Ice is a retelling of Lewis Carrol's story, presented by the Russian Ice Theater. With nearly 10 years of experience, it's created more than 20 productions, and performed around the world. Composed of professional skaters and acrobats, including champions from Olympic, American and European skate competitions, and with a musical score by composers Gennadiy Gladkov and Aleksey Rybnikov, the Ice Theater has created an artistic, dramatic vision of Alice's foray into the land of the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, smiling cats, odd caterpillars, mice, and the infamous Queen of Hearts.
