In Shanghai for over four years now. Fitness lover. Very amateur badminton player. Love reading. Sometimes I write about the little things in this big city.

There's a warehouse in Baoshan where you can pick up bowls, plates, mugs, flower pots and all sorts of ceramic odds and ends for 5rmb per 500g. It's near Liuhang Metro Station on Line 7, and it's been drawing plenty of people on weekends.

Inside, you'll find everything from blue-and-white porcelain and Japanese-style plates to cute mugs, vases and planters. Much of it is factory surplus or slightly damaged stock, so while there's plenty to look through, finding something you actually like in good condition takes time. You might come away with a haul of cups, plates and flower pots for less than 100rmb, or spend an hour digging around and still leave empty-handed.

The warehouse is dusty, so it's not the most comfortable place to browse. Give yourself at least an hour, wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and bring a sturdy bag. Check everything carefully before paying, too. Dust can hide chips and cracks, and some pieces have uneven glazing or other flaws. If you're unsure about a piece's glaze or condition, it's better to use it as a planter or decoration rather than for food. Avoid putting questionable pieces in the microwave.

You'll find the warehouse at 768 Huliang Lu in Baoshan. Search for Huobaohou Badminton Hall (火爆猴羽毛球馆) on your map to help locate the entrance. Opening hours are listed as 9am to 8pm, but it's worth checking before you go. There's parking nearby, with the first hour reportedly free and subsequent hours costing around 5rmb.

If you live nearby, need a few new pots or plates, or just enjoy rummaging through piles of ceramics, this could be a fun place to spend an hour. You might find something useful, something to decorate your home with, or nothing at all.

Promoted business.
