News From the Ground
Remember Stasia Kucherenko? She and her fighting partner, Diego, hold a self defense class at Golden Gloves where you can hit people with sticks and disarm people with sticks. It's technically Kali, a "highly effective close-quarters defensive-offensive fighting art indigenous to the Visayan region of the Philippines." And it was pretty fun and really hands on. The class is small (10 people at most) and Stas lead slowly, breaking down each move starting with footwork while Diego went around to correct form; then they'd switch. All skill levels welcome, since it's fairly new there are mostly beginners in the class. Classes run Tuesday (7-8.30am), Friday (8-9.30pm), and Sunday (11-12.30pm) and are sold in packages of 10 classes for 1,500rmb, but the first trial class is free. Contact Diego at WeChat: mrdubled if interested in signing up.
