James H. Bollen: Jim’s Terrible City & Li Wenguang: Fallacy
James Cohan Gallery will present two exhibitions by a pair of emerging international artists this summer. The first, Jim's Terrible City features twelve color photographs by James H. Bollen. The images are inspired by the legendary one time Shanghai expat, British writer J. G. Ballard (1930-2009), and Ballard's semi-autobiographical novel Empire of the Sun. Next door, Shanghainese artist Li Wenguang charts the boundaries of knowledge in his show, Fallacy. Comprising highly personal, idiosyncratic renderings, often diagrammatic and architectural in form, Li's finely detailed works on rice paper use a combination of pen, brush, Chinese ink and acrylic paint.
