Surreal videos, sculptures, rugs, and paintings by the enfant terrible of Chinese contemporary art Tianzhuo Chen are on display at K11 this summer as part of an ongoing collaboration with Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Very trippy. Known for his vibrant brights, surreal landscapes, and themes spanning everything from sex to religion to hip-hop, here that includes operatic performance Trayastrima, starring characters as grotesque as they are familiar. Think weird acrobats, androgynous characters, five-eyed blondes and gangster rappers. As well as documentation of the performance, the Shanghai show also features the work's distinctive stage design, incorporating a water fountain, a neon flame and two polyfoam sculptures. The live performance at the opening saw a dude strip naked and urinate on the stage at K11. Recommended. More about the artist and the work in our interview.
