Just west of The Bund on Sichuan Lu, Sabor is from Madrid’s Diego Guerrero (El Club Allard, DSTAgE, El Refor), who has three Michelin stars to his name, as well as the prestigious title "International Olive Oil Spanish Ambassador". As of June, 2016, this is one of the best meals you can get in Shanghai on the creativity, technique, execution front, not to mention value. Atmosphere is nothing memorable, but the food more than makes up for that. Pricing: Lunch: 8, 9, or 10-courses menu at 300rmb, 400rmb and 500rmb. Dinner: Choose between 9, 10, or 11-courses menu at 400rmb, 500rmb, and 600rmb. Brunch is a la carte or the 8, 9, or 10-course menus at the aforementioned lunch prices. Late dinner available at the bar with cocktail selection.

I came to Sabor once and I had was a whole new experience; even the staff was slow and the music not the best, the food was incredible, it was something that I never tasted or saw before. My family was visiting me and my mum is a big fan of Diego Guerrero so I decided to take them to Sabor.

When we got there, I took away a pleasant surprise, the music was totally different and the service was way better. Even they still have the same concept of not having a detiled menu, (only price ranges). Same as Dstage concept.

My first visit was only 3 weeks ago but when I order the food I notice 2 big changes, the stuff explained us every dish, something that I couldnt enjoy the first time and they already had new dishes! What it didn't changed it was the flavor always amazing, mixing cold and hot, sweet and sour... all beautifully presented and same flavors as Dstage!

I definetly will come back and try their new menus
    Creative with kinks...

After reading the first two reviews for Sabor and wanting to cash in on the "great value" of the set menu deals, I sold the spot to a group of 7 and scheduled a Friday night dinner to be followed by drinks on the Bund, for a group of SH vets, significant others, and in-town-guests... survey said... "ehhh".

The 9 courses you get for 300 kuai (without alcohol) combine to an interesting, creative, and tasty blend of dishes, yes... however, it was not in our opinion some sort of baptismal, valhalla moment that seemed to be experienced by the first two reviewers here.

There was no wine list yet, only the recommendation of the server, which awkwardly didn't include any mention of price and upon request required a return to the Micros to check...

Also, the set price menus (300, 400, and 500) are the only options and the server will not introduce the dishes included in each; which (while initially exciting) we felt was a touch pretentious given the good-not-great nature of the set as a whole...

Drinks took up to 30 minutes to arrive, the table we sat at was awkwardly behind a curtain on the second level and seemed to be somewhat out of the rotation of the staff who were difficult to flag down and disappeared for extended periods of time. The courses also were not timed properly, whereas sometimes there was a 15 minute pause between courses, and other times 2 came out almost on top of each other.

Albeit, some of these growing pains will be undoubtedly worked out by management and training of staff over time, if Diego Guerrero is counting on a fourth Michelin star at this spot, he will be waiting for a while. While our main waiter clearly had experience and decent English ability, the support staff (including the barman) seemed to have just arrived in Shanghai from the countryside and been trained up from ground zero... For a restaurant reaching for international standards of service and excellence, there is a long way to go.

All in all the first 8 courses were quite good and the "Secret Desert" was delicious and highly creative... which saved the meal for a solid 3 stars.

Worth checking out but not for a penny more.

Sabor is a very welcome addition to the Shanghai dining soon, serving up "nouvelle Spanish" cuisine in a historic Art Deco building just off the Bund (this space used to be La Pedrera - just opposite the Sichuan Lu entrance of the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai). The food is innovative and thoughtful, and is served in creative ways (one of the reasons it is not the best choice for families with children under, say, 18!). The service is outstanding (I recognized several waiters from other high-end Shanghai restaurants on the Sabor staff). And the ambiance, with big leatherette banquets and excellent music selections, is very comfortable and welcoming.

With dishes as unusual and unfamiliar as those served at Sabor, the management has wisely has chosen to simply offer three prix fixe menu options: 9, 10 and 12-dishes for RMB300, 400 and 500 respectively. Choose depending on how hungry you are -- the 12-course menu definitely fills you up, and you lose track of how many dishes you've had. Especially if you choose from the wide selection of mostly Spanish wines available. Oh, and the chef is happy to accommodate special dietary restrictions.

The food is the star of the show at Sabor. The cast is still in rehearsals at this point (July 2016), so look for even more stand-out performances in future.

Ever walk into a restaurant and they say they don't have a menu and just tell them what you don't like to eat? Oh yes they did!

They walk the walk and talk the talk. We were there for a soft opening, but WOW, easily most creative, colorful and tastiest in Shanghai period. This place just took Shanghai eating a notch up.

12 courses for 500 a person and it is not the cheap stuff either! Easily the Wagyu Steak could have been 500 alone, but nope we got cod, octopus, some other very fresh seafood and we got the special egg...

Definitely eat out a lot and hands down undisputed this place is it.

Only warning is if your not into trying new things stay away, not for amateur eaters, more for fatties like me..
