Originally part of Bellagio, an institution for Taiwanese cuisine, this split brought the to the centre of Shanghai good standard Taiwanese comfort food. Opened til 4am its one of a few places in the city that offers late night snacks. Highlights are it's deserts.

It's easy to overlook Charmant when trying to think of dining options in a city where many a venue is vying to distinguish itself with celebrity chefs, infused foams...you know the drill. Charmant doesn't even bother to join the brotherly bonds of the Enjoy card (gasp). So there it sits, rarely full, yet never empty. And I love it that way.
The food is hands down some of the best Taiwanese fare you'll find downtown. They take desserts to a whole other level - try their 'smoothies', which are really more like sorbets.
The stewed fatty pork (lurou fan) is heavenly, and has to be since it packs enough flavor and calories to kill your average foodie. I pretty much like everything on their menu and the only suggestion I have is to go for the gongbao tofu over the gongbao chicken...just not enough chicken.
If you're not drinking, it usually hovers between 80-120rmb per person. Don't sit by the window, those booths are a lesson in anti-ergonomics. Service isn't amazing, but at least it's not hostile. Same goes for decor, unoffensive and they keep the place (including bathrooms) spotless.
Overall, you'll be hard pressed to remember anything about Charmant that's noteworthy. Which is ok. Because you'll be so impressed with the food, you won't care about those other senses.

Taiwanese Charmant is solid as a rock. Late-night, weekday lunch, whatever. Simple sets of things like a Japanese omelette or hongshao rou run 38-48rmb, and are alright if you're eating alone. Ordering sensibly, a la carte, with two people or more keeps it 50-60rmb. Drinks extra. From 11am on.
