This is the flagship location of Yunnan restaurant Lost Heaven. They do relatively authentic Yunaan food, and if you wanna do pre- or post-dinner drinks they have a really nice terrace on the roof. Prices are reasonable for the location and views. Definitely a good spot to impress guests or to take a date. Despite being a tourist place, it's pretty solid, and popular for a reason. This place can get quite busy so you may want to RSVP.

    Short answer: 4.3 / 5

    Long Answer:

I've been fighting going to this place. It's been recommended to me, SmSh did a featured article about the opening of a new location, etc. Seemed a little kitschy and over-hyped to me....

But then I went, and honestly it was very good. 2 people, 4 dishes, 300rmb bill, and we both left extremely satisfied and as proof of any good meal- we finished everything... EVERYTHING.

The ambiance is of well-executed décor, with low lighting, and a steady motif of Yunnan influences.

Basically, SmSh's description in the venue listing is spot on (even if the maps are always off).

Short-listed items to try: Omelet with crab meat, chicken with chives and chiles, and the pot stickers!

Take a stroll along the Bund after your meal or head to the 3rd floor terrace / lounge for an after-dinner cocktail.

    Salud!

There is nothing special about this restaurant other than its location. The food is bland, the seating is not ideal for eating, the service requires you to yell and wave your hands for service and I was surprised so many people were turned away because of not having a reservation. It was a Wednesday 7pm. We were seated on the first floor and the table was the level of my knees so I had to bend over to eat the entire meal. Super uncomfortable for a 188cm guy. My girlfriend commented the food wasn't any better than a local 100RMB place and yet our bill was 550RMB. Not worth it and won't be back.
    I would recommend this place

This restaurant is far from the 'chicken feet' and 'general left overs' which tend to be served up in most typical Chinese restaurants in Shanghai (from what I've seen), so it was good to eat Chinese food which was both attractive to look at and tasty and affordable. The restaurant itself is very dark and atmospheric inside and almost Moroccan in feel and it takes a while to adjust to the darkness, but don't let that put you off as it is worth the moodiness. We had pre dinner cocktails which were nice, although I've had better, and then ordered a bottle of wine which was price at around 500RMB , that seems to be the average price for half decent wine from what I can tell in most good restaurants. We chose the equivalent of pork yuk sung as a starters which was good! We also chose Burmese crab cakes which were tasty but they didn't honestly taste anything like crab. Then we had a beef stirfry and a chicken spicy stir fried dish as well with vegetable noodles. It was all tasty and good but went cold quickly as they don't serve the food on hot plates! Anyway it didn't matter too much. We also ordered an extra glass of wine at the end of the meal and so our total bill came to around 1200 not cheap but then we had lots to drink!

I would recommend this place if you want to eat good Chinese food without going too rustic and going down the 'chicken feet' road! :-)
    Must try!

Went there on a Thursday night and it was packed so remember to book in advance. I had been to the other branch on Gaoyou Road several times but this branch has a good location if you are planning to take visitors to East Nanjing Road and/or the Bund before dinner.

After taking the stairs to the second floor, you find this massive room packed with tables. It is very dark inside, light is subdued, but they were enough clever to enlighten the dishes in the middle of the table, and this is successful. Much effort is put into the decor and this is for me the highlight of the restaurant. This is sumptuous and beautifully arranged, with all kinds of Yunnan/Tibetan style decorative items. Atmosphere is warm.

For us three people, we ordered 4 dishes (lamb samosas, chicken salad, Tibetan style beef and broccolis), 1 pineapple juice, 2 glasses of red wine and a small fruit platter. It cost us 462RMB. All dishes were over expectations and made me think of the Chinese saying: “彩香味美” (colorful, fragrant, tasty, beautiful).

We found the waiters were very attentive and professional. The only negative point for me was the noise, don’t go there if you like quiet places, the place is packed and this results in an unpleasant background noise. Not sure I would take customers there…

Before to leave and just out of curiosity, we checked out the terrace on third floor. It is very big, well decorated as the rest of the restaurant and definitely has high potential in summer. I will definitely be back!
