Hey Shanghai, here are three things to do with your kids that -- bonus -- you will also find enjoyable. Great stuff here: family magic shows, the second annual YoMo Youth Mobile Festival for the next generation of scientists and technologists, and a modern dance stage show about the natural world. Educational (mostly), culturally rich (definitely) and great bonding opportunities for the whole family. Read on for details.

YoMo: Annual Youth Mobile Festival

A global event program "to inspire the next generation of scientists and technologists, engineers, artists and designers to succeed in an increasingly mobile world," YoMo is a festival designed for all youngins from 6 to 18. The event will feature interactive exhibits and installations, live theater shows, immersive workshops, and a wide range of hands-on STEAM focused activities that will engage everyone from the little ones to university students. This is the second year YoMo has hit Shanghai. In 2016 over 10,000 kids, families, and educators (!) came out to explore VR, 3D printing, and robot-building. The goal is to inspire your kids to those skills they'll need in the changing workplace. (They gotta know how to code, basically. They've gotta be well-rounded nerds.)
The festival is free to attend, and happening at the New International Expo Center from June 28 to July 1. Register in advance here, spaces are limited.
Magic Family

You family Sundays just got a little more mystical, mysterious exciting, and... magical, with a new magic show made for the whole family running weekly at Blackstone Magic Bar in that new-ish Found 158 F&B hub on Julu Lu. Magic Family is scheduled for June 25 and July 2 from 3-5pm at the Blackstone Magic Bar in Found 158.
The show was designed for kids 6 and up by magician Tony Peng, who will performing on both dates. Tickets start at 150rmb for kids and 200rmb for adults. There is a discount on a family package; 480rmb for 2 adults and one child. Get your tickets in advance here.
Miravella

This ones in a few weeks, but something to look forward to. French dancer and choreographer Catherine Dreyfus brings her experimental show, Miravella, to Shanghai. It is an abstract production where modern dancers depict everything in nature from cells to sea lions. But the production is for kids, with oversized bubbles and funky costumes. Miravella will run from July 14 to 16 at the Shanghai Children's Art Theatre. Tickets cost 180rmb and you can get them here.
