Since opening in November 2010 with Faye Wong's now-mythic concert, Mercedes-Benz Arena has become the gravitational center of Shanghai's live entertainment world. Over the past decade and a half, it's hosted more than a thousand large-scale events and welcomed close to ten million people—everyone from Swifties and Jay Chou die-hards to basketball fans and esports kids.
Fifteen Years, Thousands of Shows, One Very Busy Arena
Mercedes-Benz Arena isn't just a building. It's the place where people have screamed themselves hoarse, cried into glowing wristbands, and taken videos so shaky they'd fail a driving test, yet will never be deleted.
This November, the arena celebrates its 15th anniversary by bringing back a global name who knows how to own a stage: Katy Perry.

Katy Perry Is Back: THE LIFETIMES TOUR
The last time Perry played this arena was 2015's Prismatic tour. Ten years later, she's returning—louder, brighter, and probably with twice the wardrobe budget—for three shows from November 24–26, 2025.
Her THE LIFETIMES TOUR doubles as the arena's anniversary kick-off. Expect a full-scale pop production mixing old hits, new material, and the kind of theatrical moments only Katy Perry can get away with.

How We Got Here: 15 Years of Lights, Crowds, and Noise
When the arena opened in 2010, it felt like a line in the sand: Shanghai was ready for a world-class live events venue. What followed was a run of everything imaginable—concerts, NBA games, esports finals, award shows—turning the arena into a cultural anchor point for the city.
Fifteen years later, it's still the benchmark. Still the stop for almost every major tour. Still the place that captures Shanghai at full volume.

The Warm-Up Party Starts Early
The anniversary celebrations actually kick off before the concerts. On November 22–23, the retail area turns into an all-day festival zone with pop-up stalls, games, and live bands. It's free, casual, and easy to swing by even if you don't have concert tickets.
If you haven't explored it yet, the arena's 20,000-square-meter commercial ring is also very much a thing—cinema, ice rink, KTV, beauty services, dance studios, spas, restaurants. A whole ecosystem wrapped around the main venue.

Member Perks and Giveaways
From November 22 to December 31, the Mercedes-Benz Arena WeChat Mini Program runs its "15th Anniversary Lucky Draw," with prizes ranging from exclusive merch to discount vouchers, show tickets, and signed posters.
Members can also spend 50 points daily in the "Points Mall" to claim drink and snack coupons, released every morning at 10am until they're gone. It's small, but fun—like a loyalty program that actually remembers you exist.

Looking Back, Then Forward
Fifteen years ago, the arena shifted the scale of what a live show in China could look like. Today, it's still doing that—bridging global tours and local fans, staying busy year-round, and continuing to define Shanghai's live entertainment landscape.
And as Katy Perry steps back onto the stage this November, it feels like a full-circle moment: same venue, new era, and one more reminder that this city knows how to celebrate properly.
