The peak of artistic excitement is alleged to be experienced within the walls of the Shanghai Art Museum this month through till November 5th, where the city's 6th Biennale is being housed. Excitement huh? Try confusion. See if you can guess the theme as you wander through four floors of creative madness or genius...you decide. The biennale though is a stirring time for Shanghai's art aficionados, as internationally diverse talent of assorted influence and inspiration participate in an ideas exchange. Walk through any gallery and you can probably find at least something that bursts from the canvas to at least slightly impress you. Well the biennale doesn't fail to provide such pieces, being most interesting perhaps for its design presentation through varied media. Take for example the room filled with the buzzing noise of electronic toy tractors each wired up to move back and forth slightly. Or the multitude of projection rooms that make clever use of light, space and shadows to give gallery guests some interactive fun. One clever design by Osman Khan uses electronic projection to explore the relationship between the real and virtual world. Put your hand 'Sur la Table' (makes sense if you know French) and watch how the colours and compositions of the patterns change.
