Just like many cultural events in 2005 were focused towards on French artists (The Year of France), this year the focus is another European country, for The Year of Italy in China. Exhibitions (among many other cultural endeavors) of the finest nature find their way to Shanghai's highlighted galleries, halls and warehouses, including the current Age of Metamorphosis, an exhibition at MOCA Shanghai. Indeed the exhibition does imply change, although to me the title seems to pronounce something of a more magical nature or grand on a more exceptional scale. This is not the case here (but, of course this is art it remains open to interpretation). The works derive not only from Italy but are in fact a selection from the Centro Pecci Collection, originating from all over Europe (Italy, Russia, Austria, France, England, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands) from the 1980's until today. Among the dozens of pieces included in the show, the ones that made most of an impression are as follows...
