This is without a doubt the best addition the music scene in Shanghai could possibly ask for, and a potentially huge tool for promotion of music in a non-profit environment. The point of The Lab is that it's entirely free - a platform for all those genuinely passionate about learning about the less commercialized side of music... the side not yet embraced by the city. With the soft opening last Sunday, today is the very first day The Lab is open to the public for DJ practicing (until 9pm). Visitors are able to freely use the equipment set up on a raised platform at the rear of the lab by learning techniques from whoever might be around to help, or just by mixing alone. Wireless is available (free of course), and a lounge and table are in front, for relaxing, listening, and discussing music. It's hard to get past the utter selflessness of this place, it almost makes me want to check my entire monthly salary and stuff it into the donations jar (almost, I suggest you do it instead).
