Whether you are someone with autism, a family member or a friend of an autistic person, or simply someone who wants to learn more about autism, they invite you to express your understanding, concern, and support for the autistic community through art and creativity.
They'll be selecting artwork to be beautifully crafted into merchandise, allowing more people to get a hold of a meaningful souvenir while supporting our inclusion efforts. We're using art to highlight the unique gifts of individuals with autism and foster social inclusion!
Increasing Visibility around Autism
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person thinks, interacts with others, and experiences the world. It is characterized by a wide range of challenges, particularly in social skills, repetitive behaviors, and communication. It typically appears before the age of 2-3 years.
Each individual's experience with autism can differ greatly, leading to a unique combination of strengths and difficulties. For instance, some may be nonverbal, while others can communicate effectively.
Recognizing Potential and Promoting Social Inclusion
Spending time with children with autism reveals that, despite certain communication challenges, they are very capable and possess many strengths. We hope that more people in the community can look beyond the label of autism, so they can see the gifts and aspirations of autistic children.
Encouragement and inclusion also empowers children with autism to master different life skills over time and gain self esteem, so they can transition from school to adult life smoothly.
