If you're looking for a change in your breakfast routine -- say, for example, your entire breakfast routine consists of downing whatever you've got left on your bedside table from the night before, just a hypothetical example -- you should check out this place that just opened up called Miss Muesli. They do homemade and custom muesli and granola, delivered right to your door.
Pretty neat, friends. Pretty neat.
Miss Muesli is a tiny, little one-room hutong nut shack (gah, sorry) in Xiguan Hutong that looks like this:
Just an ordering / sampling counter, a few shelves with some product, and a make-shift kitchen in the back where they bake up their homemade variations. The process is basically thus.
There's a base that they mix up...
...which gets baked...
...mmmm, fresh from the oven...
...depending on the variety, they add in a bunch of (mostly imported) dried fruit, nuts, grains, oats, twigs, and other healthy, life-giving things...
...and voila!
Very nice. So far, they have four varieties of pre-mixed muesli and one variety of granola. The entire menu is right here. Currently, it's a pretty nice range of tastes and ingredients from a classic, nuts-heavy one ("Mr. Naught Nut -- oats, rye, red raisins, cashew nuts, walnuts, almonds, almond flakes, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, linseeds") to one that incorporates indigenous Chinese ingredients ("Miss Beijing Kiss -- oats, buckwheat, goji berries, Chinese red dates, hawthorn, longan, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, white sesame, winseeds"). But you've also got the option to customize your muesli as well. When I stopped by, I managed to try out all the pre-mixed varieties via the magic of complimentary tasting cups.
Oh, hello...
...and walked away the proud owner of a 400g bag of Miss Fruit Fever and enough self-importance to launch a small satellite into orbit. Delicious. And very healthful too, right. Gonna make some changes! Gonna start doing things right! Just kicking ass at life over here.
So. Prices. Currently, there's two bag sizes: 400g and 750g. Prices are 35rmb for a small and 58rmb for a large. Granola is a bit more. (The granola is really good too.) If you're not Beixinqiao bound, it makes more sense to get it delivery, which they do all over Beijing for only 10rmb. You can order via their website.
