Since First Biting cavernous Munich import Hacker-Pschorr a while ago, we've been back a few times for the food, grazing around their menu of traditional Bavarian favorites. Food's really pretty good, actually. Their sausages platters and schnitzels are really good, and besides that, there's a certain pleasure in eating in a place like this, shoveling massive amounts of German sausages, breads, and beers into your face, in the midst of a restaurant full of middle-aged Chinese business bros with crew cuts and 9,000 pounds of keys hanging off their chinos.
Yeah, I like that scene. Bleary-eyed captains of industry getting crunk on sausage and what's been inherited into China as the best beer in the world.
But it's expensive. Several red notes expensive. So check out the lunch deal. It's kind of the starter-pack experience.
The Deal: A rotating plate of lunch for 48rmb all-in. Right now you're looking at a sausage and fries dish. Available daily from 11am to 3pm.
Lunch at the still-new Hacker-Pschorr is a dialed back thing. Looks like their evening business is starting to pick up a bit, but it's still a dead zone for lunch, save for a few of the brewmasters fiddling with their tanks and waiters in traditional German attire flitting around.
So, bang here's the deal:
Beautiful, diced white sausages on skewers, with a thick and hearty stew sauce, and side of fries. It's a good potion as well. Fills you up but doesn't bog you down if you want to get back to work after. Pretty decent for 48rmb.
Goes really good with one of these:
An imminently drinkable half-pint lager, which bumps you up to 73rmb total. When we first tried their beer, seemed like there were a few issues, but maybe those were teething problems. This one was tasty.
That's it. Pretty good deal. Pretty cost-effective. 48rmb, available daily from 11am to 3pm. Good for business lunch sort of things. They've also just put out their outdoor seating as well.
