“Tasting Tuesdays” is SmartShanghai partnering with interesting bars, restaurants, and whatever else in Shanghai to offer a legit good deal to our readers.  Each week we feature a new restaurant or business and then offer an exclusive discount on the wonderful things they are doing.  Said deals are available for purchase over our SmartTicket platform any time of the week, but only redeemable on Tuesdays.

The venue: 

This week’s deal comes to us from bright, hot, new thing Roma, a fine-but-still-casual Italian restaurant soft open now in Jing’an on Kangding Lu.  They specialize in classic pan-Italian dishes made from scratch, and come to us from from Giampaolo (Zozzo Pizza and the very underrated Porcellino) and Chef Andrea (101 Centouno).  If you’ve been to Porcellino, a nice, homey, underrated Italian restaurants on Yuyuan Lu, there’s a bit of crossover here, particularly with that home sausage and duck sauce pasta dish.  We like that place.  We like this place a lot too, which extends the concept, as it does, into more rarified terrain.  They’ve got two floors of casual and intimate dining, a wine cellar, and two private rooms.

Roma is a fancier, more upscale, and expensive outing, which is why you’d do good to get a good dinner deal if you want to check it out. 

The deal: 

Available every Tuesday for this month ONLY, SmartShanghai X Roma are serving 50% off a set dinner menu for two.  That which was 696rmb is down to 348rmb.  Not too shabby. 

The set menu for two includes your choice of starter — we did the homemade beef capaccio with truffle mayonnaise, and then we went ahead and got the bright and lovely tuna tartar with fresh avocado on top of that. 

From a choice of four meaty mains, choose 2: We got the Argentinian beef tenderloin and the home made Agnolitti pasta with home sausage and duck sauce. 

For dessert, don’t miss the Tiramisu.
