Ever Danced with the Devil in the Pale Moonlight? Halloween has come early for those who enjoy the more romantically morose aspects of life and the Goth party at Tanghui on Saturday and the Lacrimosa concert at the He Luting Concert Hall on Sunday promises to be the (only?) Goth events of the year. Long associated with the crypto-homo pedantry of Anne Rice, Goth culture has been something of a diffuse phenomenon in recent years, encompassing everything from faux L.A. vampire societies to angst-ridden teenage poetry on myspace.com. Lacrimosa looks to be the authentic article, however, and their particular take on the Goth idiom embraces (probably in some sort of death embrace) elements from Euro metal and classical music. Listen up Cradle of Filth fans. The group performs as a duo, led by German born Tilo Wolff and Finish born Anne Nurmi. Fresh off of collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra and with hits on the German and Polish charts, the duo are finally coming into their own and their visit to Shanghai promises to be significantly gloomy and disheartening.
