Zhang Jian-Jun's solo at Pearl Lam centers on the subject of water — both its physical forms, connotations and as the epitome of classical Chinese philosophy. On display will be the artist's latest oil and ink paintings alongside sculpture and archival documentation of his art installations and performances dating from the 1980s to the present. A proponent of early abstract art in China, this is actually the first time the artist will show in his hometown in almost three decades. To that end, expect head themes like existence, the origin of the universe, and the eternalness and transformative nature of time.
