As a calling card of the Bolshoi Theatre, Spartacus, ballet in three acts, tells the story of Spartacus, the leader of a slave revolt in ancient Roman, who incites his fellow slaves to revolt against their oppressors. The ballet is full of male strength and masculine beauty, presenting Spartacus's bravery, wisdom, and relentless pursuit of freedom through excellent dance skills and intense emotional expression.

The premiere of the production by Yuri Grigorovich took place in 1968, which achieved the greatest acclaim for the ballet. Grigorovich moved the scenes of Roman life to the background and concentrated the audience's attention on the fates and emotional experiences of the main characters. The music also plays a crucial role, with Soviet composer Aram Khachaturian's compositions adding drama and depth to the ballet with their grand and passionate melodies. Designer Simon Virsaladze created the set, finding inspiration from the rough texture of stone and thus casting away the glittering aura of a world capital from the ballet's Rome.
