Shanghai Concert Hall is hosting a night of pure C major with internationally acclaimed cellist Li-Wei Qin. Known for his collaborations with top orchestras around the world, Qin will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Demenga, and Britten, joined by pianist Qiuning Huang from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Expect a program that moves from Baroque precision to modern intensity, all anchored by Qin’s commanding artistry.

About the Artists

Li-Wei Qin, cellist

Widely regarded as one of the leading cellists of his generation, Chinese-Australian musician Li-Wei Qin has performed across the globe as both a soloist and chamber artist. He first gained international recognition with the Silver Medal at the 11th Tchaikovsky International Competition, followed by First Prize at the 2001 Naumburg Competition in New York.

He has twice appeared as a soloist at the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall and has collaborated with many of the world’s top orchestras, including all of the BBC symphony orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Philharmonic.

Qin currently serves on the faculty of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore, and is a guest professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK. In 2018, he founded the Qingdao International Cello Festival, where he continues as artistic director.

Qiuning Huang

Ms. Jonie Qiuning Huang is a faculty member at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM) and a member of the Shanghai Musicians Association. She received her double bachelor’s degrees in piano and electronic keyboard from SHCM in 2009, followed by a master’s degree from the same institution. In 2014, she earned another master’s degree in collaborative piano from the New England Conservatory.

As both a solo pianist and a chamber musician, Ms. Huang has performed internationally in the United States, Canada, China, Austria, Poland, and other countries. She has collaborated with leading orchestras and renowned musicians, including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, violist Nobuko Imai, violinist Feng Ning, and cellist Martti Roussi, among others. She is frequently invited to perform at international music festivals and competitions, such as the Mozarteum Festival (Austria), Morningside Music Bridge, Walnut Hill Festival (USA), Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada), and the Queen Elisabeth International Competition.

As a dedicated educator, Ms. Huang has been teaching at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, focusing on chamber music and performance.
