If you follow the international piano circuit, Daniel Kharitonov is a name that’s hard to miss. The Russian pianist rose to global attention after his standout showing at the Tchaikovsky Competition and has since built a reputation for high-energy, emotionally charged performances. This Shanghai recital brings together iconic piano works and virtuosic transcriptions, all performed solo at the Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall.

Daniel Kharitonov was born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the Russian Far East and came to international prominence in 2015 when, at just 16 years old, he won Third Prize at the 15th Tchaikovsky International Competition. Since then, he has been recognized for performances that combine technical power with youthful intensity and emotional clarity.

Kharitonov is also a prizewinner of several major international competitions, including First Prize (Golden Nutcracker) at the International Television Contest for Young Musicians “Nutcracker” in 2010 and the Grand Prix at the Vladimir Krainev International Piano Competition in Moscow in 2015. His career has taken him to major festivals and concert halls across Europe, including Verbier Festival, Schloss Elmau, Windsor Festival, Lammermuir Festival, and the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris.

As a soloist, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, and Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, working with conductors including Iván Fischer, Christoph Altstaedt, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Dmitry Liss, and Valery Gergiev. His recent engagements include performances with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov,” and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
This piano recital program spans classical, impressionist, and Romantic repertoire, as well as virtuosic transcriptions from well-known ballet and opera scores, highlighting both lyrical expression and technical brilliance.
