Cozy neighborhood sandwich shop and deli by notable Shanghai cook Austin Hu and his team. This is the much-anticipated replacement for his first Madison, a popular brunch and dinner spot that closed in 2014. The sandwiches are big and priced fairly at around 50-60rmb, especially considering they're smoking / curing all the meats in house. They do classics like tuna melts and pastrami sandwiches as well as more experimental joints like a "Green Eggs & Ham" made with pesto. There's also a few salads, some sweets like Rice Krispies treats, and a couple items for sale like Sriracha and truffle butter oil. The place is small -- just a few counter seats facing Huaihai Lu -- so it's mostly for takeaway. Over the next few months, they'll transition into making everything in house, from the bread to the ketchup. Depending on the day, a large-breed dog named YouYou might be lounging on the floor. She's friendly. A welcome addition to the neighborhood.
