A solid week for community happenings in Shanghai. *** The Community Center Shanghai (CCS) is throwing a September charity fair with reps from about 10 charity organizations all in one place, so you can find the cause that calls to you. Organizations will include Paw Pals Animal Rescue, Heart to Heart, Stepping Stones and more. The fair will run from 6pm to 8pm at the Hard Rock Cafe. Free entry. Hey teachers, here's a seminar on basic counseling skills you can use in the classroom. Coming to you from 'The Learning Group' it'll be a part lecture, part practice from 4.30pm to 6pm. Goes from 6.30-10.30pm and price varies; for IPWS Members 170rmb, non-members 300. IPWS Young Professionals Members 120 and non-members under 30, 200rmb. Jenevieve Chang discusses her 2017 memoir, The Good Girl of China Town, which chronicles her journey from growing up in a conservative Chinese-Australian family to becoming a show girl in Shanghai at Chinatown, Shanghai's first burlesque club. (It's now The Pearl.) Juicy. Talk starts at 4pm, costs 100rmb with a drink. Best Friends China is helping one: Mrs. Qian, an animal lover who's taken in over 70 dogs and 20 cats, but who needs to lighten her load. To help these animals find a new home, there will be an adoption event at Kerry Parkside from 3pm to 7pm. Beer and charity! Everyone wins.
