In Shanghai for over four years now. Fitness lover. Very amateur badminton player. Love reading. Sometimes I write about the little things in this big city.

A new illustration fair is taking over the Shanghai Exhibition Centre this weekend. Running May 29 to 31, the first edition of the Shanghai Illustration & Pop Show (SIPS) brings together close to 200 illustrators, artists, galleries and lifestyle brands from 11 countries and regions for three days of exhibitions, booths, workshops and talks.

This isn't really a traditional gallery fair. It's closer to a mix of design market, indie publishing expo and fan convention, with artist booths, prints, limited merch, installations and small-run collectibles spread across the venue. Names on the lineup include Tango, Xiong Liang, Anxia, Sherry Bright and Zhang Wenqi, alongside galleries and institutions from China, Korea, the UK and Australia.

A big part of the appeal is that most of the artists are actually there in person, so you can browse their work and buy directly from them. Expect lots of prints, stickers, toys, zines and small collectibles at relatively affordable prices, alongside workshops, sharing sessions, lucky draws and interactive activities happening throughout the day.

Even if you're not especially plugged into illustration culture, it's an easy event to drift through for a couple hours. Click here for tickets and the full schedule.
