First we got DIIV, and now we've got Nothing? Yeah, shoegaze fans in Shanghai are officially eating this summer.
Nothing, the Philadelphia shoegaze heavyweights, are bringing their wall-of-sound melancholy back to Shanghai this summer. If DIIV was the dreamy, drifting coastal walk, Nothing is the version where you stand in a rainstorm and pretend it's emotionally meaningful. Big guitars, buried vocals, everything slightly collapsing in slow motion.
For longtime fans, this one's been a while. The last time Nothing played Shanghai was back in 2019 at Yuyintang, where they delivered one of those shows people still bring up years later whenever shoegaze comes up in conversation. Beautiful, deafening, and exactly what everyone wanted.
Two of the biggest modern shoegaze acts landing in the same season is a pretty good time to be a fan of loud guitars and sad feelings. If you're into Slowdive, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, or any variation of beautiful noise, Nothing should be an easy yes.
Summer travel plans? Honestly, cancel them. Your out-of-office reply can wait. Shoegaze heavyweights like this do not come through Shanghai often.
