An upscale dim sum place called Canton Table in Bund 3 is looking both fancy and Bund-y, and getting rave reviews from early goers. Papito Pancakes is back in Puxi with a new location at 317 Changle Lu, near Shaanxi. Open right now! For pancakes! Megaclub TAXX is open. It's huge. It's glitzy. It's... is this going to work? In Found 158? Is this what Found 158's been missing all along? Is TAXX the harbinger of doom for the cavernous Deep Vaults of Found? The bones have fallen in ominous alignments.

Casualty List

Every single Cold Stone Creamery is gone. Every one. Disappeared last month. No reason given, just poof, gone. They've put out a statement saying you can get a refund before the end of December if you had a coupon card or something. They've been dying a slow death for yours; we're going to guess there's a Haagen Dazs shaped bruise on the back of their neck, right where the spine meets the skull. CSI: Ice Cream. Norrahem Fusion Family restaurant closed down sometime back in October. We only just caught it. It looked like a pretty family friendly joint, but it seems like diners' experiences were... mixed. In even more news I totally missed, Sprout Lifestyle in Minhang shuttered about a month and a half ago. They're shifting more and more towards online retail via their website, but their Xuhui store will remain open. Whiskey bar on Fumin Papaya is also gone. In sad Dagu Lu news, Shanghai Republik has closed. That sucks, I liked that place. They started out pretty strong but had a fraught first summer where they weren't allowed to put seating on that big, beautiful terrace. Finally, Pure & Whole has closed its Yanping Lu location. Fret not. Shanghai Centre remains open not far from there. A statement is up on their website?

The Word Around Town

It's not all bad news about Shanghai Republik people, though, because they've confirmed they'll be back probably in mid-December, same palce, new concept. Think more of a restaurant, with an Asian orientation, they say. Hopefully, there will still be a place for the arcade cabinets there. In other "soon to be opening," there's Banana GG on Xiangyang Lu. Boldly announcing the "best salads in town," the owners have got some delicious looking product photos in their moments. Looks like healthy eating. Probably pricy healthy eating. But we'll hold our . Okay, bit of renovation and replacement news! Seems like Holy Cow is going through some renovation work. They recently opened up their Mi Xiang Yuan which we covered here, so I don't know if it's renovation or "renovation." Fuku Sushi has also had profound hoardings put up around it. We asked them and they said they'd be open again "maybe around Christmas time."

The Happenings

Moka Bros is bringing their trendy Beijing-based partner La Social for Arepa & Cocktail Brunch Pop-up on Sunday. That's possibly the trendiest sentence I've ever written. Their head bartender Steven's going to be there, mixing up cocktails, and Chef Daniel's doing Colombian sandwiches. Those are called arepas. Hence the name. No entry. 11am-4pm. Git some. In other news, Hotbox is going to start doing wings probably next week. ysssssssssss
