This one's been in the cards for some time now and the venue's management has officially announced it via their official WeChat account: On Stage is closing July 2. Owned by the JZ corp., the venue is joining the mass migration away from the Red Town area, following news that the property's management is re-purposing the area. There's been some muttering about office blocks. A quick translation of their official statement after the jump.
(WeChat statement translated from Chinese.)
We have been through a lot to get to this point, and it ends very suddenly and unexpectedly. We have too many words to share with you, too many dreams that we didn’t have time to start, too many things that we didn’t have time to finish.
To cooperate with Hongfang’s relocate program, On Stage will officially close on July 2. The plan was to close by end of August. We didn’t have time to plan for the last goodbye performance, so from now on to July 1, every performance is a goodbye performance
The organizers and bands who booked by onstage in July and August, we have to ask you to change location or cancel the performances. Thank you very much for having chosen onstage, and we are truly sorry to let you done, sorry for the trouble. Thank you all who supported On Stage, we love you forever.
See you again in the near future
No word yet on where they're reopening (if they're reopening), although rumor has it On Stage might be joining the JZ Club mothership at Found 158. We'll keep you posted. The concert venue is closing up with two last shows: a local blues band on Friday and a hip hop EP release show on Saturday.
