Pirata can best be described as Spanish tapas in a Japanese delivery system. With its unadorned, neutral-toned walls, Spartan furnishings and the bar in the middle that comes complete with four cooks meticulously plying their trade, the place looks and feels like a sushi bar, but the menu is largely Spanish and Spanish-inspired cuisine, like asparagus con migas, fried calamari and heirloom tomato salads, preserved seafood and charcuterie. All of this is accompanied by a small and simple list of liquid refreshments like wine and sangria.
