One of the only decent places to have a nice dinner in Tianzifang, East-Eatery is a two-story, modern Asian restaurant by long-time Shanghai restaurateur Stefan Stiller and his wife Yoshi. On the more casual first floor, they serve oysters and seven kinds of steamed baos, like Beijing duck, Korean fried chicken, and Kimchi and bulgogi beef. Fare on the second floor gets more creative, and expensive, with options like sashimi, seafood, steaks, and chops. Some of it is izakaya basics, like chicken and leek skewers, steamed edamame, or miso marinated cod. They even do their own version of gongbao jiding. It's shareable and well-executed. Go for the tteokkboki, those Korean sticky rice cakes. Expect to pay at least 150rmb per person, without drinks, and more if you're ordering alcohol or getting into certain corners of the menu. Definitely a date-worthy spot.
