While service may be a little lacking the food here speaks for itself. The emphasis is on quality, not quantity. Guests select from the daily board which features dishes such as home made pate terrine, cold cuts, grilled sea bass and lobster rissoto, all of which is made with a high attention to detail and quality.

I've heard something good about this bistro but in fact it was a disaster....I went there with my girl friend at 19h00 while the dining room was still empty, but nobody welcomed us, I had to find a table myself. The guy(perhaps the manager) came to finger-pointed the wine my girlfriend who brought: "sorry your wine is not allowed to open here or you should pay the selling price here". Eh, it was the gift from her and I'm not even ask to open here...I said that shall you greet with us before saying anything? the guy narrowly said hello and left away through my dinner. I ordered a glass of martini dry but the waiter mistakenly brought me a dry martini, confit de canard is stark and non of tasty, also there's a little sand in the salad my girlfriend got, such a high range of menu and wine list, I don't think it matches a bistro concept. ok they made an effort on the location but nothing else to say positively, I'll never come back.

After a good first impression of the place on my first dinner with my french GF, we went back for some of the same great cote de boeuf which if done right is amongst the best meats in town. Unfortunately this time Franck and his team did everything to make the experience a sour one. The meat served overdone was not an issue to concern Frank himself, not only he ignored the comment but our table for the rest of the nite. Had it not been because I wanted to make a formal complaint to him at the end regarding the poor customer service by him and his staff to which you have to remind several times what you ordered or do so in french (thanks to my GF) to his french supervisors, I would not have realised how arrogant and mistaken this guy is. His answer "next time go to a 5 star restaurant for service you ask" says it all, this after having spent in 2 dinners with my GF aprox RMB 3000. I did ask him to give me a discount on the bill for ripping us off with the meat and cheese, a plate of the latter with 8 individual coin size servings of french naturel lait cru cheese at RMB 50/piece... I did get the discount, though an infimal RMB 200 over the bill. Its unfortunate that such a poor service and arrogance from Franck himself overshadows what sud have been a pleasant and delicious dinner. So long..

It was my first time to go to the Franck's but the experience is just so wonderful. I would like to share it with all my friends who are going to visit shanghai shortly. The food is fantastic, the wine is so delicious... you would not feel you are in the middle of ASIA but sitting in a nice cozy restaurant somewhere in France! Franck's knows what to do with food and wine... really amazing!

I absolutely love Franck's. The bistro itself is charming yet modern. You know you're in a slightly upscale place, but there is nothing snobby or pretentious about the decor.

I've been there three times in a week. Once for lunch with a friend, again just to buy some cheese and bread and the third time I went on a whim to have lunch by myself. The manager is a French man who came to work at Franck's about 8 months ago. The menu is written entirely in French on boards that are displayed table-side as customers are seated. If you can't understand French, not to worry, your server (the manager) will explain it thoroughly to you. They have a mixed staff of French, Filipino, and Chinese. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating.

The pate (NOT the foie gras one), was good, but not great. But other than that, everything has been absolutely superb. The bread is fresh and warm with a wonderful crust and is served with a delicious salted butter. The Duck Confit was beautifully cooked and perfectly seasoned. My friend had the Croque Madame which was excellent as well-- creamy and cheesey, but not heavy at all. We had the Creme Brulee for dessert, which I dare to say is the best Creme Brulee I've ever had. It was simple, just a Vanilla Creme Brulee, nothing really special, but the Creme was perfect, just as it should be-- sweet, but not sugary, with the perfect creamy consistency, not too thick, and not like the egg custardy stuff I find in some Creme Brulees now. And the sugar coat was freshly Bruleed, you could tell it wasn't done in the oven or done hours ago and reheated.

When I had lunch alone, I tried the soup of the day, which was a creamy leek soup-- again, it was not heavy at all, really nicely done. And I also had the Beef Tartare, which was hands down the best quality beef I've had in China.

Along with the quality, the portions are very generous for a French bistro. Honestly, I could make a meal out of any one of the appetizers. I was getting full just eating the soup! I keep eating because the food is that good. Chef changes the menu every day based on what is fresh at the market and in season, which ensures the quality of the food.

The prices are high compared to standard Chinese prices, but this would be considered average/cheap in a place like New York City or LA. Also, there is no way Franck's is OVERpriced. The Croque Madame was about 70RMB, which is about . You pay for a Potbelly's Sandwich in the US and you would pay for a gourmet sandwich at any decent cafe in the US too. Anyways, at Franck's the prices might be high compared to what you would pay for a Chinese meal or a crappy Western meal elsewhere, but the food speaks for itself and they certainly don't cheat you on the portions, so I have always felt like I was getting my money's worth.

We went to Franck on a Wednesday night and were pleased to find it packed! It's always a good sign to see a restaurant full of happy diners. The food, I had a white truffle salad and the duck , my boyfriend had the "charturiccurie" (cold cut) plate and steak tartare. We were both so pleased. We had a carafe of red, the cheapest one on the list and it was fantastic.

As for the service, I liked it. They were attentive and gracious. Franck himself comes over and takes your order and the meal is well placed. You're given time to enjoy your food, wine and they bring your table the best bread and butter (salted!) to your table.

It was an overall wonderful experience. I'm going back this week just for the wine and to have the cheese selection.
