My first encounter here was just great! The staff took time to explain menu items, service was prompt and the food quality was EXCELLENT! A little on the pricy side, but you can overlook this once you consider the quality of the food, service and the short escape to another place as you sit inside what could be any local restaurant in Paris which is frequented not by tourist, but by the local Parisians! While this might not be an everyday kind of restaurant, it surely is recommended for that special night out!

Disappointed... Although the environment and overall atmosphere is really, really good... The food and wine was not on the level of price!
This time, I tried the feasan, a new dish there replacing the roast chicken and I was disappointed. In my preview life of baker, it was said: "if you want to do better bread than your neighbor, put more salt in the dough..." that was my feeling about the just tender feasan. The sauce was too liquid, an the presentation really, really childish! ( a shame)
Foie GRAS was good, but side bread was too, or not enough something.
Desert : i ordered the fondant au chocolat, and it was really nothing special both in term of taste as in term of presentation, disappointing as I love fine pastry....
Butter and breads were good.
The wine list is rich, but no one was there to provide advice, so I decided to order a gauby, vieilles vignes, as I had a wonderful memory of this wine at the same place some time ago, unfortunately it was not available... It happens. Then I was advised by the waiter for a said to be similar wine, which was not once in my glass, my nose and my mouth.
In term of service... There is a protocol in french restaurant:
- first you seat and order l'aperitif,
- then you check the menu and order food then wine,
- then you drink l'apero, taste the wine, start to eat, drink some wine, take digest, be happy... This time the waiter mixed all this...
- we seated,
- then order food, order apero, start to eat, drink apero, order wine, finish eating, tast the wine, get up and go....
I would say that Franck knows what are the good simple products as cheese, coldcuts, pates, wine, but when it's time to process food, it's out of control... Disappointing when you spend more than 2000rmb per head. Luckily I was invited by a supplier but I lost my face while trying to promote my French pride in such an average place...! I'm glad that at least no one was arrogant, i would have not accepted... I'm French too and I know well how to complain...

After reading some of the other revieww I really wanted to validate some of the other opinions. The service her is NOT good. But before you decide on not going here, you should note that the food is excellent and the setting even better (especially on a breezy sunny day).
Being a French bistro in SH it's understandable that most of the waiters are local and communication is limited. My expectation are honestly never high for service, but FRANCK service really blows. All of the waiters are aloof, as though they forgot that they have to take our orders..??? We waited 30 minutes until I finally got up and grabbed a waitress. After ordering two items, I was told the following "Those don't taste good. They are very bad." It made me wonder why they have it on the menu...We also ordered orange juice which for some reason too another 30 miniutes to make when we had finished our lunch. Very odd...
I'm not a picky person so this level of unprofessionalism (if that's a word) is still manageable, but don't go here for business and if there's really a nice french guy that works there, he sure wasn't there on the day that I went...
Make sure you have time and enjoy the great food and fresh ambiance.
This place is not only super true to it's roots. Authentic French bistro it is! But it also has the best wine selection in Shanghai - especially if you, like me, fancy Bourgogne.

I agree that Franck has an attitude problem - we hear this over and over again but we still keep coming back...well, because food is great.
My latest example: I called and asked if they had a table within 30 min. and was told that they "might" have a table ready after 45 min. I agreed, although the girl at the reception sounded bit rude and hung up on me before I even got a chance to say thanks. So we started out with a drink at their bar, right beside and decided that we didn't wanted to wait, so we took our dinner at the bar instead of. So I kindly went next door to inform them and here is where I saw big time attitude that pissed me off. I was kind and said "sorry, but we will just eat next door" and the girl looked at me with an anoying face and said "ok" - so I asked "can we order any food from Franck and eat it at the bar" and again her reply and facial expression was awful - answer was "no" said in a proud/laughing and disrespectful way.
Franck, do something about the attitude - it's not all about the service anymore - customers wants service and if you pay Francks prices, then you surely deserve a LOT better service than what you guys can offer now.

I met up with my friends when they finished eating here....tried some of the food and it was pretty good for what you can find in all those overrated places in Shanghai. But the service itself was a bit....well they were more turds than the usual service bad attitude. I didn't make a big deal since I'm used to it, but today I called in to see if I could make a reservation, sure I did it a bit late....but the attitude was really bad and the incall logistics was really stupid. They actually have two phone numbers for the exact same location. Landline for the bar and cellphone for the restaurant. I called the landline since the location is exactly the same, and not only did they say there are no reservations in a VERY impolite attitude, they were quite in a hurry to hangup on me. You'd think they can just hand the phone over to the person right next to them for reservation of the restaurant or just take a note for that reservation. This really pisses me off. Must be run by northern french.
