Yes, that's the same Kathleen from Kathleen's 5. Her Bund restaurant boasts stunning views of the Pearl Tower and the rest of Luziajui and the Bund. The menu features Continental-style steaks, chops and seafood with Pan-Asian inspiration as well as a small sushi selection. An expansive list of expertly mixed "Prohibition -era" cocktails is also a big draw.

I've been to Kathleen's Waitan a number of times now, and can confidently say that it is one of the most pleasant places to eat in Shanghai. The breathtaking view from the expansive outdoor and indoor terraces always puts you in a terrific mood. The service is generally very good. The drinks are generous and the wine list outstanding. And the kitchen does not disappoint in its main task: to delight the tastebuds.

The lunch set exceeds expectations and is great for business lunches. I generally skip the 3-course option (RMB198) and go for a starter and main dish (RMB168). Options are fewer than for dinner, but there's something for everyone. I really like the Crispy Tuna Sushi Rolls followed by the Duck Confit.

The long list of starters for dinner makes decision making difficult: oysters, sashimi, sushi rolls and 12 other starters are on the menu. If they have them when you go and you are in the mood, go for 1/2 dozen Tasmanian oysters (RMB 258). There are 3 soups and 12 main dishes. I really like the Australian veal chop with red wine reduction; tender, flavorful and beautifully presented.

Three courses can be had for RMB488, so I like to add the house Tiramisu -- it's light and delicate, so you don't think about the calories. There are eight other dessert options, plus cheeses.

I've never been to the weekend brunch, but I hear it is very popular and is only RMB198 for 3 courses.

I hadn't been to Kathleen's Waitan since it opened - it's pretty easy to forget this corner of Shanghai, let's be honest - but it was an impressive experience. The location is genuinely breathtaking - it is ON the river, with the Pearl Tower and the big three skyscrapers smack in front of you, and barges going up and down the river. Eating on their large terrace with that in front of you feels like you're at the theater!

Interestingly, they serve both sushi (several kinds) and classic western dishes. We didn't have the sushi - instead, we shared a plate of the steamed mussels - which were, quite frankly, addictive - and then I had the grilled salmon, which was expertly done. My friend had the Angus beef short rib, which she asked for medium rare, but came a little too cooked for her liking. Still, it had a nice flavor (I thought!). The dessert menu (always my favorite part of any meal) was - depending on your viewpoint - full of classics, or lacking in imagination! We shared the tiramisu - their most famous dessert, said the waiter - and it was delicious.

The service was friendly and mostly competent, but we had some language/communication issues (such as with the Angus beef dish) and occasionally trying to get the staff's attention. Overall, though, Kathleen's Waitan had the winning combination of delicious food, a killer view, pretty good service, and at the end of the day, the bill was quite reasonable, considering what it included. I'll be back!

Went to Kathleen's Waitan for Valentine day and the day was totally ruined.

It was pretty much evident that they stuffed more tables for the day as tables were so close to each other and felt like sitting in a market. They had a funny white-blue neon lights which made the venue look like a cheap Chinese wedding place.

They served 4 course menu. First was a salmon & jamon salad which pretty much was prepared a few hours ago as salmon was dry and hard to chew. Got what taste like a Campbell mushroom soup next. Main dish was salty & dry half lobster and rubber made steak. Every food seems to have been prepared in the morning with low quality materials.

Servers were trying their best but simply there were too many tables to handle and they were confused and rushing all the time. One of the server spilled a vase water on the floor next to our table and washed it with a table close using a foot.

Understand Valentines day is a business opportunity for restaurants, but it also means memories for customers. If former superceeds the latter I don't think the place will have a sustainable business. Hope Kathleen's Waitan earned a big bucks for the day as it seems most of those who when there on that day will not come back again.
