Douban Celebrates a Year of Good Chinese Alternative Music with the Abilu Music Awards
By Jan 25, 2018 Music
Douban, the No.1 platform for Chinese bookworms, musicheads, and movie nerds just launched its 7th edition of Abilu Music Awards. An award named after Abbey Road honors some of the freshest, the most representative alternative music in China.

This year they still have three categories: best records, best singles, and best newcomers, under which there are seven genres: indie-pop, pop, rock, folk, rap, electronic, and ambient. Ambient? So huge in China now. Some noteworthy names in this category include Broken Thoughts, Dou Wei, Baishui, and Gooooose. Shanghai's Dirty Fingers and Faded Ghost are also among the nominees. You can listen and support them here. Douban chooses the artists through a year of data mining and gathering opinions from users and critics, so for those who want to know a bit about what the Chinese millennials are into these days, it's an insightful platform to look at. The final winners will be announced in March.
