Martin & Dubois are a French instrumental duo blending math‑rock precision with post‑rock intensity. With a shared obsession with rhythm, structure, and volume, the duo is all about the essentials - ‘sharp rhythmic shifts, cathartic breaks, and riffs that spiral rather than resolve…less on genre expansion and more on refinement, much in the vein of Shellac and Don Caballero. Catch the duo this week as they terrorize Shanghai with multiple shows here - including Wednesday at My Place, Saturday at C’s Bar, and Sunday in Zhujiajiao. Drums, guitar, and pure physical energy - what more could you ask for?

American deathcore juggernauts Suicide Silence are keeping this weekend visceral and alive with a special showcase at VAS ear. With a style that draws on elements of black metal, grindcore, mathcore, and groove metal, the Southern California band emerged in 2007 with their punishing debut LP The Cleansing - kicking off a deathcore boon and inspiring a whole new generation of kids. Like a freight train coming barreling toward you - their ‘breakneck intensity, the fearless acceleration, and the no-nonsense efficiency’ has made them unstoppable. The band will be supported by Dehumanizing Itatrain Worship - known as the anime slam kings - a slamming brutal death metal band chock full of lightening-fast drumming and pig squeal-infested vocals. Righteous indeed.

Almost Monday (US)

San Diego trio Almost Monday make the kind of music destined to be played out your car window while driving down the highway heading toward the beach. Shiny, upbeat pop with glossy production and catchy hooks - it’s undeniable. The US band has been riding waves of success since breaking onto the scene in 2020 with their single ‘Broken People’ - infused with their ‘sun-kissed signature style with a bold bass bounce and empowering refrain’. And you know how the story goes - festival slots, tours galore, a steady stream of chart-topping songs, and a killer debut DIVE. See what all the hype is about tonight at VAS ear.
