Something is happening on what was once a sleepy stretch of Fuxing Lu. This boho part of town, once perfect for a meandering walk through old lanes, has become the choice spot for those seeking a quiet cup of caffeine and their fix of mellow Jazz. Taking in the sights of the embassy guards' daily march, happy little children being dropped off by their parents, once propelled the ambiance at a few of Shanghai's most recognized institutions: Y+ Yoga and JZ Club. In little over a year Fuxing Xi Lu has become a little hot spot that has sprouted many cafes and restaurants, and it looks like it will continue to bloom.

Most of the cafes and restaurants on this street cater to the bohemian community living and working around these blocks who enjoy well priced coffee, drinks and meals. The most recent addition to Fuxing Lu's artsy block is Arugula, a stone's (or boomerang's) throw away from Tara 57 and La Bella Cafe, which raises the bar in this area with its concept, menu and architectural design, but luckily not too much in prices.
