3 years ago to the week, SmartShanghai was born. It all started with some party pictures and the idea to create a platform that allowed users to exchange information and reviews of what's going on in Shanghai. We probably wouldn't have realized that it's our birthday if we didn't have a few reasons to look back on what happened in the past 3 years. Today we uploaded our 10 000th party picture!! That's over 15 Gigabyte of smiling faces, 286 galleries in total - we estimate you'd need about 23 hours to check them all. The most viewed galleries are the second Riviera Pool Party, Sven Vaeth at Pegasus (word is on the street that he'll return to Shanghai to play at Bonbon this year), the Freak & Fetish Party, the first Ladie's nights at Zapata's, "What time is it?" (from good old Maoming Lu days) and the Miss Sixty party at VIP Room (when it was still an old theatre). All party galleries here, see pictures of all Solid Vodka parties here. Nostalgia crept in even more as we dug a little deeper into our archives and discovered party videos that CedricM Video productions shot in the past 3 years, and added 8 yet unpublished videos to our Party video page, including the Bar Rouge opening party, M on the Bund's Pink Party (from back in 2003, SmSh was still a little baby .. and not invited ), the Bvlgari Party party at Plaza 66 and the Calvin Klein Party in 2005. (If videos stream slow, let the entire video stream in the background before you start watching it.) All videos here. And so during this week of celebration we also say farewell to Ashlea, who's been the editor of SmartShanghai for the past 12 months. Ashlea joined SmartShanghai when it started being more than a part time project, and without her help it wouldn't have been possible to become what we are today - a professional, creative and interesting city guide to Shanghai (well at least that's what we believe we are). We wish Ashlea all the best in the next step of her career path, and we hope she'll be back to be a part of our team when we do the re-launch of SmartBeijing.com sometime in 2007. So, as it's our Birthday this week, it's a good time to thank you, all our readers, our supporters, our advertisers and all our contributors. If you like what we do, please support us by checking back on our site regularly, recommend us to friends, contribute (e.g. by writing reviews here) or buy a SmartShanghai premium membership card - Q5.
