JZ

is not as exciting a name as some of the dance clubs, say Guandii or Bon Bon which creates interest. JZ is kind of bland, but it is simple and that is all JZ is, it has no complex concept it's just JZ, just Jazz. This definitely works here; the stage is almost as big as the area for the audience, this creates an intimate setting even though the tables are crammed together. There is an upper level looking on to the stage but I would definitely recommend sitting down at the level with the band. The door fits the concept, or lack of it, it is simple but stylish dark panel wood and red drapes. The lighting is, of course, dim which is perfect when the band are playing as the light on them makes them really stand out, gleaming saxophones and drums shining out to you. However it is pretty much impossible to read the drinks menu. If you don't burn it on the candles you'll find the prices on it are fairly steep, all drinks are at least 45rmb, but considering the atmosphere and the fact there is no entry fee it is very reasonable. The band I saw there was Latinoide, their main weakness is their awful name, their music, the important bit, is excellent. They play a solid Latin Jazz, soothing and exciting, samba, salsa and other Latin standards all with a Jazz twist. There was plenty of toe tapping and head nodding going on despite the reserved nature of the audience. Their strengths are obvious, they are fantastic musicians, various solos from each member displayed their virtuosity without ever losing the feel of the music. With a charismatic band leader and percussionist the banter was good and they were fun to watch as well.
