From April 19 to 21, 2024, the highly anticipated F1 Lenovo China Grand Prix will rev up its engines at the Shanghai International Circuit.
It's been 5 years since Shanghai witnessed a race this grand. (Lewis Hamilton won it for Mercedes, if you recall). Plus, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix and the 20th birthday of the uniquely shaped Shanghai International Circuit. So expect it to be even bigger.
You can tell by the hotel market. The five-star hotels (Sheraton, Hyatt...) located in Jiading District are already fully booked for several days before and after the game date.
Tickets
Unfortunately for some fans, tickets were already sold out instantly after launching in January.
The official ticket app of the game is 久事体育 (Juss Sports), which requires real-name ticket purchases. Purchasing tickets must be bound to a passport or ID card, and both the ID and the e-ticket must be presented when entering the venue for each person.
We also poked around for the black market price on Xianyu... Apparently, HuangNiu still got it and they are selling almost 3 times the original price. For example, the H/K area is priced at 1290rmb. Scalpers sell it at 3200rmb, by which, they also need your passport, full name, and payment upfront. Risky on privacy and you might lose the money. [Editor's Note: Ticket scalping is not legal in China].
What's New
The game will introduce the sprint race to Shanghai for the first time, which means the competition will be more intense and exciting. The sprint race takes place the day before the main race and is about 60 kilometers long, where drivers need to show their speed and skills in a short period of time.
China's first F1 driver, Zhou Guanyu, will compete at home for the first time.
