Opened May 25, BackDrop Vinyl is a new record bar and café on Suzhou Creek that's already drawing a steady crowd of vinyl enthusiasts, curious passersby, and people looking for somewhere to linger over a drink.
The two-story space combines a record store, café, and cocktail bar. Around 600 records line the shelves, spanning jazz, classical, rock, soul, and newer releases. The gimmick, if you can call it that, is that every table comes with its own Audio-Technica turntable. Pick a record, put it on, and spend an hour listening to something other than your phone.
Coffee and light drinks carry the daytime trade, while cocktails take over in the evening. It's the sort of place built around slowing down for a bit, whether you're digging through records or settling in with an album from start to finish.
If you've forgotten what it feels like to listen to music as an album instead of a playlist, here's your reminder.
