Breaking news from the fine-dining circle jerk world: there are two restaurants in Mainland China worth going to! Two! That’s the finding from the Asia’s 50 Best people, a regional award just teetering on the edge of relevance, no doubt made after a thorough scouring of Mainland China, and greater Asia. What are those two restaurants? Ultraviolet, which came in 8th place (what is this, fantasy football for restaurants?), and Fu He Hui, the fine dining Chinese vegetarian restaurant. Ultraviolet is a groundbreaking restaurant. Fu He Hui, I’m less enthusiastic about. But if you ever wondered where all your favorite places in this city, nay, country, rank against all the other restaurants in Asia, you now have a sense of the order of things for 2018.
