This is the start of the outdoor portion of JZ Spring, the annual jazzstravaganza brought to you by JZ Music. Although the indoor portion is paid, the outdoor portion, taking place around town, is free.

YYT Park is hosting a treat for Metalcore fans: French/English outfit Betraying the Martyrs is stopping in while they play at Midi (tickets for that are sold out, btw), performing alongside Japanese progressive-metalcore/djent band Paledusk. If beautifully gripping melodies mixed with painstaking brutality is your thing, don't miss. Tickets are 160rmb for presale on showstart.

Over at Dada, Mau Mau and Heatwolves are combining Yoshi, three kinds of baijiu, Jackie Chan, Wang Wang snacks, CDJs, Liqun ciggies, and a Volkswagen Santana into what sounds like the opening to a joke that only four people will get. Acid, italo, techno and percussive club tracks. Free entry.

TSLR is launching its Open Mic Summer Series at Lychee, kicking off with a writing exercise before jumping into readings and performances. It's free, all are welcome and readers can sign up via the QR code on the flyer.
