Shanghai's vintage scene keeps getting more specific, and Neng Vintage is a good example. Started by a 21-year-old Ralph Lauren collector and content creator known as Xiao Neng, the shop focuses heavily on vintage Polo and RL pieces, especially the more streetwear-leaning side of the brand, rather than classic Americana or ivy-style styling.
The first store opened a little over a year ago, while a second location quietly opened nearby recently. The two are only about 200 meters apart, so it makes sense to visit both together. The original store is smaller but packed with variety: colorful jackets, military-inspired pieces, workwear, accessories, and more unusual finds. The newer second store is larger and more streamlined, with rows of classic Ralph Lauren shirts, sweatshirts, and easy everyday pieces. Most pieces sit around the four-figure RMB range, with some shirts and caps in the few-hundred-yuan bracket. Even the rarest items top out at around RMB 4,000–5,000, with nothing really breaking into five figures.
Originally rooted in Ivy League style and classic American luxury, Polo was adopted by hip-hop and street culture in the 80s and 90s and transformed into something entirely new. In cities like New York, crews such as Brooklyn's Lo Lifes turned Ralph Lauren into a symbol of identity, aspiration, and rebellion — mixing oversized Polo pieces with sneakers, graffiti culture, and hip-hop style. What made Polo iconic in streetwear was the contrast: luxury worn with raw authenticity. The streets gave the brand a cultural meaning far beyond its original world.
That context shows up at Neng Vintage in a quieter way. The shop doesn't really lean into archive-heavy Americana or the more rigid "Ametora" approach to vintage. Instead, the selection feels younger and more relaxed, closer to how Polo has been absorbed into everyday streetwear than how it's preserved as heritage. Even if Ralph Lauren isn't usually your thing, it's an interesting snapshot of how the brand keeps getting reinterpreted through different generations and cities.
