A friendly instant noodle shop until 7pm, Bar Flow then hits a switch on its persona and becomes the cool kid you want to learn more about. Behind the shelf holding “provisions” is a different world: retro Hong Kong vibes with lots of neon, and a tongue-in-cheek attitude towards décor. There’s a vintage arcade machine (it works), a wash basin filled with action figures and a neon sign telling you to 下班喝酒, -- finish work, start drinking. The overall aesthetic doesn’t make sense. I like it. The soundtrack is hip-hop and the drinks average about 100rmb each.
The most metal thing about the place is the Jagermeister noodles. Yes, Jagermeister. For 68rmb, they’ll cook you up a bowl of Indomee instant noodles (with duck heart, chicken and dried tofu skin) and throw a shot of Germany’s finest hunter liqueur on top. Is it good? I wouldn’t order it twice. But all in all, Bar Flow does a good job of cultivating a cool ambience, despite the pricy drinks, and for that, I’d come back.
