Hey, do you like to eat food and get paid a lil something on the side to do it?
Perfect. Read on.
The Situation:
SmartShanghai runs Shanghai’s largest English-language Directory Listings with over 18,000 F&B venues, shops, services, gyms, schools, galleries, museums, and more. All our listings are maintained and updated by our small team of editors and listings managers. As you may have noticed, however, Shanghai is growing, spreading out, and changing faster than ever before. We’re pretty good with staying on top of things in the city center but we’d love to try to improve on our information offered on the newer and further out areas of Shanghai. And we’re asking the Shanghai community for help.
So! Join our Scene Team, please!
Whenever you visit a venue or use a service in your area, you log into a dedicated page on SmartShanghai and fill out a short questionnaire. This is called filling out a “Check In”. We’ll ask you to confirm some of the venue’s basic information, check what the venue’s lunch and happy hour deals are, and upload a few photos.
We’ll also ask you to write a short description of the venue. It’s not a full review, but rather a short informative description saying why the given venue or business is and if it’s worth your (and others’) time and money. You don’t need to be a professional writer (our editors will verify and edit your content), but a good eye for detail and natural curiosity would, of course, be great.
That’s it. And for this, we’ll toss you some cash.
How much time will it take you?
We are only asking you to submit Check In’s for venues and services you are using anyway, in your particular neighborhoods, so you don’t have to get out there and spend any extra time or money. To keep the position, we ask you to submit at least three Check In’s per month, but you are free to submit more than that.
What are the requirements?
We are looking for contributors that have been living in this city for a couple of years and can put things into a certain perspective. For example when you check into a bike shop ideally you’ve seen a few other bike shops in town to judge how that one compares. Our directory doesn’t promote or hype venues, it’s aims for being a useful and honest guide to the city, so we are looking for people that have good opinions, don’t buy into hype, and can spot businesses that stand out. At the same time, you need to be curious and like to explore new things and live and consume this city with a positive open minded vibe. You do not need to be a native English speaker, but you should be comfortable writing in English. When you apply, we’ll ask you to submit a short description about a place you like.

Your profile will be listed as a contributor on the SmartShanghai page and your name will be listed on venues that you checked in on.
Thanks for reading and maybe contributing! We hope to hear from you.
