In the seemingly slumbering intersection of Fenyang Lu and Fuxing Lu are a bundle of shops with just about anything you could want in the way of making music. Convenience-wise, this is great for students of The Shanghai Conservatorium of Music, also situated on Fenyang Lu. For everyone else, it's still great - about 10 shops on either side either specialize in one instrument only such as pianos or violins, stock a huge range of Chinese music books and classical CDs/DVDs, magazines etc, or include a variety of instruments such as electric keyboards, recorders, flutes, saxophones along with pretty much any accessory you might require. Parson's Music also has a branch here. Pianos retailing at a small specialist store (with a total of four pianos) start from 10,000rmb; they also offer private lessons. What I didn't spot though were any electric guitars or drum kits. Not surprising, as the area no doubt leans toward a more conservative [read: classical] side of music.
