Life at SmartShanghai is rosy. We have a cool, creative team of editors, photographers, designers and developers who spend all of their time figuring out how to bring you the best the city has to offer in the coolest way. And we are hiring. Not "expanding" -- no one is leaving. We are growing the company and want new, talented people to help us do that. What's it like to work for us? We strive to create a friendly, relaxed work environment, where everyone has flexible work hours (no clock-punching), standing desks (hey, it matters), up-to-date computers, and a say in how we run the business. The office is close to IAPM right in downtown and easy to get to from anywhere in the city. We have a lot of lunch options. Want to get in on this? Hit the jump to see what positions are available!

CreativeHunt Managing Editor

SmartShanghai is re-launching CreativeHunt and we need a Managing Editor to run it. The position will be responsible for managing the 570+ listings we currently have, clearing out the ones that are no longer useful and networking around the city with new agencies and creative that should be listed. They will also help to make the site more useful by creating and writing editorial content (though this is only about 25% of the job); creating an Asia-wide editorial calendar of creative and design events; visiting creative co-working offices on a weekly basis; and taking charge of social media. Basically, we want to zap the site back into life, we have some ideas about how to do it, and we want the right person to make it happen for us. This is a full-time job in the SmartShanghai office reporting to the Managing Editor and Director of SmartShanghai. Read more about it and apply here.

Music and Ticketing Editor

SmartTicket by SmartShanghai has more than 100 shows at any given time, from the Formula One race to the Russian State Ballet and parties with members of the A$AP Mob. In this role, you will create content related to the listed shows, including interviews with musicians, dancers and other performers; original editorial material putting the shows into context for readers and customers; editorial recommendations; listicles; and whatever else we can think of to get the word out there about all the great cultural activities that are happening in Shanghai. This position will primarily focus on SmartTicket, and will include writing short, snappy descriptions for each show based on original research, provided press materials and your own knowledge. Listings Editor

SmartShanghai’s database has more than 15,000 listings, each added one at a time by one of us over the 15 years we’ve existed. We are not user-generated; we are edited. That means it is someone’s job to keep on top of the directory, manage the addition of new venues (10-20 every week), mark and record the closing of other venues, and generally keep the whole system up-to-date. This requires being out and about in the city and doing on-the-ground research, as well maintaining a wide network of contacts. As part of this role, you’ll be expected to write articles that reference, showcase, and highlight the directory, in addition to the herculean task of keeping the directory organized and running. It’s a big job. It requires you to become an expert on the city. It’s incredibly detail-oriented. It’s also fun. Read more about it and apply here.
