Huh, thought the original would go before the expansion, but nope, Jackie's Beer Nest 2 on Baotun Lu (and its neighbor Hamburg House) is no more, as the building has been reclaimed by the government. Jackie's not planning any future expansions, as it's too risky. Perhaps, one day, that dream of 100 taps under one roof, will be realized.
On a more positive note, new bar alert; La Social, brought to us by the same people that planted Moka Bros, is opening up sometime this June. The original Beijing spot is a a late-night Latin-themed bar, with arepa and a disorienting mix of Chinese and South American doohicks and thingamubs. It's pretty popular. Expect the same here. Venezuelan chef Daniel Urdaneta is responsible for the Columbian sandwiches, Steven Yang is the man behind the cocktail list, and Colombians Alex Molina and Alvaro Rincon are the creative types behind the slogans, thingamubs and wall art. La Social was actually in Shanghai in December at Moka Bros with a cocktail & brunch pop-up, so at least we know they speak Shanghai.
