First up, both The Bull & Claw and Porky's were subject to our gluttony this week. One of them was good the other one was just okay. Figure out which one is which here.
Mr. Banh Mi and the Little Catch on Wulumuqi Lu have both reopened after the kerfuffle on Wulumuqi earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Bread Etc. opened its new store on Nanjing Xi Lu.
Mirror Club has changed itself to just Mirror, moving away from the club vibe and more into a cocktail lounge thing, doing snacks; cheese, oysters and salmon, they said. Looks all right!
Beer Bank's opened. It's another beermarket with a modest but decent collection of beers and some upstairs seating. Not much refrigeration visible, but they're still getting things installed. Notable because it's right next-door to KO Basebody.
Oh FYI Uptown Records 'n Beer is still open. Reports to the contrary are fake news. You know who you are, dude using our contact form.
Amazing burger joint Midnight Burger's original location on Huashan Lu is closing on June 17th. A sad day is had by all in the area. We drink from their tears, however, as they're moving into a brand-new location directly underneath us, "soon."
Speaking of which, it's replacing a spot that was called Papa Pasta, which before was... something else. Last week I mentioned cursed corners. This one's one of them. Hope Midnight Burger fares better.
The Camel's Pudong location is no more. Pudong: a desert even The Camel couldn't hack.
The terraces on Dagu Lu are all shut. You can read a bit more about that particular shitshow here. The latest update is that they were told it's "temporary" and they should hang in there. So fingers crossed that the tables and chairs will all be back out in short order.
The Word Around Town
A new hoarding got put up just around the corner from IAPM mall and Donghu Lu, suggesting bruncher-beloved/controversially-burger-patty-sized alcoholic-milkshake-slingers Beef & Liberty are moving in. They've got a chance for you to win a dinner for 10 by taking a picture of their hoarding and then sending a picture of said hoarding to their WeChat channel (scan the QR code on the hoarding). Hoarding. Did you know it was called a hoarding?
Considering the friction on Wulumuqi Lu, it's not much a surprise that we hear Mr. Banh Mi is moving to a new location somewhere around Shaanxi Bei Lu and Fengxian Lu in the next couple of months, setting up another pop-up slinging banh mi's and pretty good spring rolls.
A new cocktail place called Shadows is moving into the ground floor of United Valley. It looks like they've already got their drinks sponsors in place.
Final bit of news, Uva Wine Bar is embracing a new direction, putting the grapes on the back shelf and breaking out the cocktail shakers. The Shaanxi Bei Lu venue is changing their main offerings from wine to cocktails and live jazz, and have already completed a bar redesign.
