Shanghai International Literary Festival Releases March 2018 Programme

Feb 23, 2018 | 11:42 Fri
Books. Discussions. Insight. Conversation. Ideas. Cocktails. The Shanghai International Literary Festival returns to M on the Bund (and associated venues) from March 15 to March 28 for two weeks of edifying chatting with an international roster of writers, authors, academics, and random intelligentsia. Today, they've released their Programme of events, under the general 2018 banner "Charitable Ventures and Empowering Women". Quick highlights: Man Booker Prize-winner Paul Beatty, celebrated Tasmanian novelist Richard Flanagan, Stella Prize-winner Charlotte Wood, the-always-welcome-in-Shanghai Paul French, English author Geoff Dyer, and Baileys Women's Prize-winner Laline Paull. Full list after the jump.

Perhaps lacking in the raw star power of yesteryear — in previous editions, the Shanghai International Literary Festival has hosted in Amy Tan, John Ralston Saul, Matt Groening, and, most deliciously, Gore Vidal — the program is nevertheless a well-thought-out one. Plenty of relevant writers engaging in relevant discussions that are relevantly capturing the world's relevant attention in this super relevant year, 2018. Plenty of profound and provocative-sounding things on the menu. Plenty of opportunities for cringey questions in the Q&A period. Tickets will go on sale on February 26. You can get those directly from the venue itself or through the festival page right here. The marquee events always sell out, so get yours sooner rather than later.
