Yannick Alleno's Opens, Found 158 Has Its First Casualty, Organic Kitchen Ups Digs, and CDS Turns 6 Years Old

End of another week, Shanghai! It feels like it's been Wednesday for three days, is it just me? Anyway, we've got a couple of new high-end openings in Changning Raffles City. One's the first mainland spot by Yannick Alleno, the other is some guy called Morton. On Yongkang Lu, that Greek/Danish dessert boutique is now a Greek gyros joint, the bell tolls for SEL in Found 158, where there's some new club coming in the near future apparently, and more more more, more openings, more closings, more parties. I am the F&BS mill. Feed me, Shanghai. Feed me.


Now Open

The Bund is keeping it fresh with three new venues running the full quality gauntlet; awful, mediocre and chrome. Find out which one's which here, if you haven't already read our On The Radar (why not?).

Club 3 1/3

This happened a couple weeks ago, but Strangas on Yongkang Lu has been replaced by a nascent Greek spot called Estia. It looks much the same, but it's serving up actually remarkably good gyros at 55rmb a pop, with plans to expand the menu, maybe throw in a little lamb shank?

In Changning Raffles City, we've got Morton's Grill and Terroir Parisien from Michelin star hattrick hattricker Yannick Alleno. The former's steaks, the latter's a bistro. No doubt there's much more to say about either, like the extent of bistro-iness and how much steak we're talking, but basically that's all you really need to know to see if you're going over there to check it out. Steak. Bistro. All set in that renovated mansion that Paulaner's in.

Malaysian/fusion spot Awana right next to Daliah has been rebranded to a sportsbar looking spot called Roadhouse. Bit of a hard pivot there, but okay! Love me a sports bar.

Casualty List

SEL has the dubious honor of being the first of the new breed of Found 158s to go under (not counting non-starters). A bistro-ish sort of spot run by a first-timer from Le Cordon Bleu, it just didn't bring in the crowds. It's spot has been taken over by the Camel Group. Camel Group's being cagey with details, but they said "it’s something that we think will better fit in and add to the great mix of nightlife and food concepts in Found 158." That's three Camel venues in a row, next to Hooked and El Santo... the Three-Hump Mile?

Sel-a vie

Organic Kitchen, below Arcade, is being gutted. Word is that the least expired and the government's taking back that street to build offices. Organic Kitchen is moving to a new place in Xujiahui, and they're still doing delivery.

Over on Fuxing Lu near Yongfu Lu, Wooden Paradise closed up . Meanwhile, right next door, cozy wine bar Salute has been listed on a properties site, so that's likely not long for this world. 120k a month, if anyone's interested?

The Word Around Town

Did you think Found 158 was doing well, but needed something more nighlife-y? Maybe like a Myst? Of course you did. TAXX: The Angle Of X, going into Found 158 and opening later this month, describes itself as a nightclub, like Myst! So excited for more Myst.

Speaking of Greek places, Yueyang Lu's Milos Taverna is apparently pivoting away from being a place for food and becoming more of an event space. Make mental note.

Is that all? No more grist for the BS gossip mill? Great, I've got some column inches left, let's engage in some good old-fashioned rampant speculation.

Ex-Enoterra (Anfu Lu)

Popolo Group (those behind Bar Centrale and Gemma) have been busy busy bunnies recently, what with Feidan becoming Alimentari and turning their Enoterra into QV Wine Bar on Wuding Lu. So, just going to put down a little prediction here; Enoterra (Anfu Lu) will become relaunching as something else in the near future.

Menus, Deals, Parties, Whatever

BottlesXO is putting on a champagne-y event this weekend, hosting in de Venoge Brand Ambassador Franck Mayaud for a special pop-up on Sunday at Sinan Mansions from 3pm-6pm, followed by a private 488rmb champagne dinner at 7.30pm at Solo. There's a 20-person limit but we hear there're still a couple spots. Write to if you're interested.

Speaking of Alimentari, they're having a Grand Opening Party this Saturday with free food and half-price on their bottled drinks. Welcome to the world!

Also on Saturday, Found 158'll probably be completely packed out to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the greatest contribution interns have made to Shanghai. Yes. Le Cafe Des Stagiaires, indomitable, unquenchable, immovable (mostly), six years, vive les stageirierieisiiesisss, go get wreeeeeecked.
